The final table at this year’s European Poker Tour (EPT) Vienna has just got underway with the remaining players left in the competition all vying for a chance to take down the prestigious EPT title, and walk away €700,000 ($972,677) richer.
It has taken four days of action to whittle the 587 player starting field down to just eight hopefuls and the one name drawing the attention of poker fans everywhere is current chip leader Daniel Negreanu.
Negreanu has been the chip leader or there abouts since the middle of Day 2 and is now in a good position to take down an elusive EPT title, to go with his 4 WSOP bracelets and 2 WPT titles. A €700,000 ($972,677) payday would also put Daniel on live tournament winnings of $13,808,689 and propel him ahead of Phil Ivey on poker’s All Time Money List.
As yesterdays action got underway at the €5,300 buy-in event, Negreanu was only slightly behind the Greek pro and chip leader Konstantinos Nanos. By the end of the day, however, Negreanu was back out on top once more and finished on 5.07 million chips with a second place Nanos trailing on 3.635 million.
Along the way, Negreanu eliminated Italian Umberto Vitagliano for 462,000, whose push with A-K over the top of Negreanu’s 93,000 raise holding Qh-Jh, floundered on a Q-10-5-Q-K board.
A little later, Erlandsen was also eliminated for 646,000 in a pre-flop battle holding pocket aces to Negreanu’s pocket 7’s, with a 7 falling on the turn.
Commenting on his Twitter account, a bearded Negreanu said: “All done! 5,070,000 out of 17 mill in play EPT Vienna final table. Healthy chipleader. 2nd has 3 mill…I’ve been pretty lucky this tourney which leads me to one obv conclusion: shaving is bad luck. Not ever shaving during play again.”
As play gets underway at the final table at the 2010 EPT Vienna, the player’s chip counts are as follows:
Daniel Negreanu (Canada) 5.07 million
Konstantinos Nanos (Greece) 3.635 million
Michael Eiler (Germany) 2.160 million
Luca Cainelli (Italy) 1.935 million
Bruno Launais (France) 1.785 million
Matthias Lotze (Germany) 1.210 million
Martin Hruby (Czech Republic) 975,000
Andreas Wiese (Germany) 730,000

The Casino Vienna is located at Palais Esterhàzy, on the famous Kärntner Strasse in Vienna. Still owned by the family of princes today, Esterhàzy Palace likely originated in the early 15th century. In 1968 the building burned almost completely. Only a few bits of its former Empire-style features still remain. Ego casino. Today the majority of the rooms are adorned with contemporary artworks. The works of artists of various styles are integrated in the interior of the casino. A particular highlight of Casino Vienna is the Fuchs Room designed by painter Ernst Fuchs and his two sons.
